Helen Webster is a fifth generation Canadian and the granddaughter of Dr. Robert Ross, the real life TRADER'S SON and MEDICAL MAN. Growing up, Helen was enthralled with the stories her grandfather told. This 'larger than life' man ignited in her a passion for writing, for research and for Canadian history. She felt certain that someday she would recount his story for all to read. She knew her grandparents well and had access to original source materials including her grandmother Jennie's letters, as well as Robert's letters, his stories, his journals and his medical case studies, which all provided a richly detailed narrative of the times.
Helen holds a Master's degree from the University of Victoria, BC. Prior to her career as a writer, she was a school administrator, and before that, a classroom teacher. During her years in the classroom she also taught writing courses, both to students and through workshops, to their teachers. For five years, she was the coordinator of Gifted Education for her local school district and was seconded to the BC Ministry of Education to assist in writing the policy for Gifted Education. Her university education also includes a year in the Faculty of Journalism at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, where her passion for writing flourished.
Helen is also an accomplished artist. For information on her paintings please visit her other website here: www.helenwebsterart.com
