Writer and artist, Helen Webster lives in the coastal community of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. Built around a beautiful harbour on the east coast of Vancouver Island, this small city city has historical ties to the Hudson’s Bay Company, the backdrop against which the three novels of her Canadian Historical Trilogy are set. See MEDICAL MAN, TRADER’S SON, and COMPANY WIFE.
Helen is a fifth generation Canadian and the great-granddaughter of Maggie, the real life COMPANY WIFE, and the granddaughter of Dr. Robert Ross, of TRADER'S SON and MEDICAL MAN. Growing up, Helen was enthralled with the stories her grandfather told of his and his mother's lives. These tales ignited in her a passion for writing, for research and for Canadian history. Helen and her husband have raised a family in Nanaimo, and they enjoy all the pleasures of living by the sea. Every few years, Helen travels back to her birthplace of Drumheller, a prairie town in Alberta, Canada, and both her writing and painting reflect her upbringing under that vast prairie sky. Helen holds a Master's degree from the University of Victoria, BC. Prior to her career as a writer, she was a school administrator, and before that, a classroom teacher. During her years in the classroom she also taught writing courses, both to students and through workshops, to their teachers. For five years, she was the coordinator of Gifted Education for her local school district and was seconded to the BC Ministry of Education to assist in writing the policy for Gifted Education. Her university education also includes a year in the Faculty of Journalism at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, where her passion for writing flourished. |
Helen is also an accomplished artist. For information on her paintings please visit her other website here: www.helenwebsterart.com
